I backed Regalia as it does look solid and I like games like that.
I also backed LightFall - Escape the light, Through the Woods and Dimension Drive. And I think I may have mentioned but I backed Umbra, Hero-U and Bloodstained. Dimension drive is one of the trolled campaigns that got screwed by a fraudulent bid for lots of money, which was lost in the finals days and screwed them making their goal.

Re: The active Kickstarter projects discussion thread.
We Happy Few is a dystopian game with some very strong art about trying not to starve in a drugged up alternate history 1960s city. That is a very eye catching thumbnail. The execution has problems. It ends on a Saturday (Bad) that happens to be the 4th of July (Bad) and in the morning at 8:49am PST (Bad). It will run into E3 (Very bad). It launched on a Thursday (Fair). It is also running for 29 days from the start instead of 30 (Fair). It priced itself at $30 (Could be bad). The rewards structure feels very stretched out. It is PC only for now with Mac and Linux hinted as stretch goals.
The Lost Pisces is another game with strong art, but the campaign itself may be doomed in its campaign's execution. It is an interesting re-imagining of a classic tale. It is limited to Kinect platforms which could really harm its chances. The $25 price could be too high for what they have to show. It has the same problem of ending early on Saturday July 4th.
There is just a flood of weirdly executed campaigns recently.

Re: The active Kickstarter projects discussion thread.
Rails & Riches is another strangely executed campaign. It is a spiritual successor to Railroad Tycoon from someone who worked on that franchise. It only has 106 backers.
Game is one of the better produced joke campaigns to launch. It looks like they just removed the main body of the project page before they canceled.
I made a post about the Rampage 3 campaign and how so many limits on reward tier slots restricted growth.
The quality of the new projects launching has plummeted.

Rails & Riches has a HUGE minimum goal. Perhaps that's scaring people away? Game was really weird until I saw the companion video that made it more amusing. I'm sad they cancelled it so fast. I want to back Game!

There were 503 service unavailable errors for a short time after Shenmue 3 appeared on Kickstarter. 36,681 backers are currently pledging $2,885,954.

Re: The active Kickstarter projects discussion thread.
I am SUPER excited about Shenmue 3. I *loved* the first two and used to get into arguments about the game's merits with one of my coworkers at High Impact all the time. He didn't understand the joys of operating a forklift!
It is interesting because Yu Suzuki isn't answering questions about where the rest of the development budget is coming from. Sony admitted they were "helping" with development, but there is no way you could make a game of the scope one would expect from a Shenmue game for $3 million. To make a modern version, it'd probably be $50-100 million, but I suspect they might take some shortcuts. They had the full Virtua Fighter combat engine as part of the game. It was neat (I liked training my moves), but I suspect that could be cut and it could be a bit more directed and less open world to get the budget down. Still, I can't see them doing it for less than $15 million, so someone is going to be sinking money into it.
It is also interesting that there is no mention of Sega who presumably owns the rights. Maybe Sega is silently publishing it, but that would be weird since they'd probably want their name plastered all over it... It is a mystery, but I am super happy that the game is finally getting made!

Re: The active Kickstarter projects discussion thread.
E3 is over. Things are getting back to normal besides the giant campaign that is Shenmue 3 being one of the best performing video games ever so far.
Kickstarter now has pitch videos start playing immediately instead of clicking the play button. This is annoying for me because when browsing the Recently Launched area I'm often opening a few tabs and have to pause the videos.
Perception is just over its goal.
Charlotte's Dream is a point and click adventure game. The video audio is a touch too high. It runs for 59 days, the platforms weren't listed when it launched, it ends very early on a Friday in the last half of August and the project page itself isn't very tall. Still it looks like a lot of effort went into the game itself and there is the backstory that the game started development around 2 decades ago.
Final Breath is back on Kickstarter for a 4th time. They are not using the old project account.
The Tower almost looked like an intentional joke campaign like Game was.
Defect is a spaceship building game with an interesting premise of a captain builds a ship, has his crew mutiny because they want the ship and then the captain has to build a better ship to go after his former crew. The game is about intentionally integrating defects into a ship.
The developers of Sunset announced their studio is closing down due to low sales.

Re: The active Kickstarter projects discussion thread.
I am really sad to hear Tale of Tales is shutting down. I backed Sunset and was really excited by it. (Haven't played it yet though.) I really enjoyed "The Path" by that studio. I guess it is tough to make really artsy games work as commercial products. SteamSpy posted on his twitter that sales of Sunset has increased with the news that the studio shut down. Maybe that will help?
Cindy Au (formerly of kickstarter) said that sometimes projects can succeed on kickstarter that won't be commercially successful. I wonder if Tale of Tales could survive by doing a kickstarter for like $100k for each project and basically develop the game within that budget? The only had one stretch goal at $50k (which they exceeded by a significant margin), so I feel like Sunset could have done even better on kickstarter.
It seems like Tale of Tales are relying on Patreon, and while some people can do amazingly on Patreon (a friend of a friend apparently has $30k a month on Patreon just to do art), I think unless you are really popular, you can't make a ton of money. The IGN guys who formed Kinda Funny are only bringing in around $45k a month between their two Patreons, which for 4 people once you assume expenses is not super amazing. (We aren't doing that well at Infinitap yet. haha) Jim Sterling has done similarly when you divide kindafunny's patreon's by 4, but they seem to really be the exception rather than the rule...
