How do you prefer to do language selection?

We are getting the game localized and are beginning to think about the best approach for selecting the language.

The problem is there are different ways to do it. We'll support in game selection (since we want to have DRM free builds and I don't know if Ouya supports multiple languages), but do people like to use the Steam language selector thingy? Is that preferred to setting it in game?

We are trying to figure out the behavior we want to support for selecting the language.

Just FYI - all the in game dialog will be in English. We only change the language for the subtitles.

Awesome, thanks for the input. Do you look for in game selection first before selecting the language in Steam? Does the language parameter passed into Steam default to French when you play?

I don't quite understand your first question, do you ask me if I prefer that the game default to the user's language on Steam with option to change it or if I prefer a game option without Steam involved ? If that's the case I prefer the second option since you'll have a DRM-free version.

For your second question, it depends: for some games, Steam download only the Steam user's language version so it "default" to french for me, but for other with an unique multiple languages version it depends on the build (and the developers ) some have native or english language by default and you need to change it, some have user's language by default.

I think we are probably going to start with the user's language from the Steam client, and then allow people to change it in game - further ignoring future changes of the language. That seems easiest to me anyway. Does that sound okay to you?
