The Cat Lady: Yay or Nay?

Post by JPrice »

Hey guys!
I noticed that The Cat Lady got added to Steam not long ago, I've heard of it before but never really properly looked into it. Just gave it a proper look and it seems rather interesting.

So my question is to the people on this here forum who have played it before, would you recommend it? If so then what are the reasons, like how long is the game, is it paced well, is it creepy etc. Just wanted to make sure that it was worth the £6.29 that it's currently on sale for before I got it!

Thanks in advance :D

I never played the Cat Lady but I've watched playthrough of it and I find this game awesome, really (I can't say why because my answer include spoilers).

I've actually been meaning to play The Cat Lady because I read a lot of comments saying that they were excited for our game because it seemed like The Cat Lady.

I just purchased it on Steam, but my gaming backlog is a bit long. Stupid industry releasing so many games during the holidays! :-/

I played this a while ago, and I would recommend it with a few caveats.

For the good parts: The gameplay is pretty solid and will be familiar to adventure game fans. It's a sort of side-scroller (a bit like Neverending Nightmares, but without the horizontal and vertical movment! :) ), so that's different from the adventure gaming norm. The controls take a bit to get used to, but once you get the hang of it they work well. It's not a very difficult game and the puzzles flow pretty logically. It looks very unique, the artwork has it's own feel and creates a dark and disturbing world.

I haven't had depression or been in therapy, but there are parts of the game dealing with that that feel very personal, as if the creator had been through it or been close to someone who had.

Some bad parts: It's an uneven game. For all the parts that seem deep and personal, there are a bunch that feel like they'd be more at home in a Nine Inch Nails music video. Not that that's necessarily a bad thing, but the shifts in tone can be jarring, and make it a weird and uneven experience.

The voice acting can get really rough in places, cringeworthy at times.

Overall though, I enjoyed it, it's unlike anything I've played before.

Got it on one of the indie sites' sales, but didn't get around to playing it yet. The art style it has seems... interesting but also confusing and weird. But I'm more interested in the story, anyway. It's a point & click adventure, after all.

I don't play many games these days (first no money to buy the necessary equipment*, now I don't have the time), but I actually played the Cat Lady and found it to be quite decent. One reason is the art (very important factor for me) and then the story line. You should give it a try :)

I purchased it on Steam, but I still haven't gotten around to playing it. It's on my list, so I'll definitely check it out one of these days. :)
