132 - Daylight
Re: 132 - Daylight
Sounds like that new term some people have started throwing around, "PewDieBait", based on what types of games PewDiePie apparently plays for his channel and can then react scared to.
Yeah, that's not exactly the best of Let's Play in my view and designing games around it sounds really bad.

Re: 132 - Daylight
Personally, I don't really understand Let's Plays because I'd rather play the game myself, but I guess I'm old-fashioned and out of touch. hahaha While "PewDieBait" may not produce the most inspired games, perhaps it is a decent way to guarantee a return on investment. Making video games is hard, and making people buy them is even harder. hahaha I just hope our sales for Neverending Nightmares is at least an order of magnitude greater than what we saw for Retro/Grade... Otherwise, it may be hard to stay indie. I'm keeping my fingers crossed, and hopefully PewDiePie will do a Let's Play.

I think that you'll do fine Matt
I mean there seems to be a good amount of coverage outside of these forums at some fairly well established outlets. Plus horror games tend to do rather well on YouTube these days so there's the advantage of that hahaa

I hope so! If I learned anything from Retro/Grade, it's that there are no guarantees in the world of game development. We did terrible numbers on Retro/Grade - much worse than I imagined possible, and I set my sights pretty low... It kind of makes indie development a terrifying career choice! hahah

Re: 132 - Daylight
For me, the most interesting Let's Plays are for games that I've already played, but I want to see what truly masterful players can do. After spending 100 hours playing Dark Souls, it was amazing to see someone beat the game in under an hour.
Re: 132 - Daylight
That IS impressive. Dark Souls is too challenging for me to even attempt. hahah

If anyone's interested, I believe the current world record is 51:14. There are actually much shorter times, but those use a glitch--now patched out--that lets you skip a bunch of bosses.

I'm still working on Dark Souls II, but I think I'm close to the end now.

If Neverending Nightmares sell really well it'd also be hard to stay indie
(and I have a lot of friends that already can't wait to play this)

Re: 132 - Daylight
Actually, it would be really easy to stay indie, since he would make money and keep Infinitap Games running. If by indie you mean like relatively unknown, then yeah, we're all hoping it gets lots of press coverage and sells well!miumiaou wrote:If Neverending Nightmares sell really well it'd also be hard to stay indie(and I have a lot of friends that already can't wait to play this)
Re: 132 - Daylight
The term indie is an interesting one, and Ron Gilbert blogged a series of questions to try and get to the bottom of what it means. All it means to me is that I can make the games I want to make, and no one can interfere. If I am successful, then I can continue to do so. If I'm not, I'll have to go work on Call of Duty or something... :-/
