186 - 0.9 Build Features

Post by matt »

In this developer diary, I talk about some of the changes that went into the 0.9 build.

It's really hard to do these without spoilers! hahah

Ah I see you read my review on Steam (Which I appreciate considering it's very long, I even had to shorten it so it'd fit within Steams review word count hahaha). I hope you didn't take my comments regarding the difficulty too personally or anything :/

I felt like mentioning it up front to people, so as to avoid any false expectations. I did mention though that the game wasn't focused on difficulty or length and that it was about the core experience being a lean and well crafted horror title. I just wanted to give people forewarning about what they should expect, so as to avoid any misled customers hahaa :)

Hope you liked the rest of my review though! (I was very positive about it so hahaa)

I did enjoy your review. Thanks for writing it! :) Nevrending Nightmares is definitely is not a difficult game.

Designing the game has been a tough balancing act getting the atmosphere, the simplicity of controls and interface (to aid immersion), and any sort of challenge/gameplay. Some people expect brutal difficulty for the horror genre, so it is going to be interesting to see how the game is received. To some extent, the game has more in common with "Gone Home" than "Resident Evil" at least from a difficulty/game mechanics perspective. Hopefully people will have the right expectations going into the game, and certainly your review helps. :)

If anyone wants to write a steam review, I'm all for it. 0.9 is *MOSTLY* done although the next build is going to be even better. I am hoping to get a bunch of positive Steam reviews before the game goes on sale.

Thanks everyone!

It looks like I missed the window for Steam reviews, I had one written up now that the levels are all in, but now Steam's saying I can't post one since the game isn't released yet: "You must wait until this product has been released before writing a review for it."

I thought you could do reviews early, did they change something recently?

That's weird :O
I could post mine just fine and that was a few days ago. Not sure why you aren't allowed but I guess you won't have to wait too long to do so :)

Maybe it's a Steam policy change? Or maybe it's because we switched to countdown mode on our Steam page. :-/ Weird. Well, I hope you saved the text because I'd love to get all sorts of positive buzz on the Steam page once we launch. :-D

Thanks guys!

Yeah I think it changed when the release date was added. No worries, I did save the review so I'll toss it up as soon as Steam lets me!
