Screenshot help!

Post by matt »

For whatever reason, I suck at taking screenshots of my own game. I'm not quite sure why. Maybe I'm too close to it or something? Maybe I don't see the details that others do. Anyway, we are going to do a big press push for GDC and PAX, which means we need a new round of screenshots.

I thought it might be fun to crowd source it! Here's what I need:
1920x1080 uncompressed PNGs from the PC, Mac, or Linux version of the game. Unfortunately, the Ouya runs at 720p with some graphics settings turned off, so it's not going to be as good for press shots.

On Windows, I'd say use Fraps. That's what I always use, and it works pretty great. I think it is free for screenshots and only costs money for video.

On Mac or Linux, I have no idea. The Steam screenshot thing takes to JPG I believe, which isn't ideal. I'd be surprised if something similar to Fraps didn't exist, but I don't know what it'd be.

The reward? The satisfaction of a job well done? hahah I don't know. I guess if you feel like you need a reward to motivate you, we can try and work something out.

Thanks everyone!

Oh exciting, are you going to both PAX and GDC this year?

I finally upgraded to a 1080p monitor not long ago, so sounds like a good excuse to play through the alpha again! I'll try to get some good ones and toss them up this evening.

Steam actually has an option to take .pngs, it's buried in the settings under the "in-game" tab as "save an uncompressed copy", so that's another good option.

OK this is what I came up with, ALPHA SPOILERS for anyone who hasn't played it yet!
Whatever videos or pictures you end up showing the press, I recommend you working a shot of the library in there somewhere, the detail on the books really pops out.

Here's an imgur album with all of them: http://imgur.com/a/Aaq3o

And some compressed .jpg thumbnails to give an idea:

These next three pictures tell three different stories, so I uploaded them all and let you decide!

And finally direct links to the original .pngs if that's easier (~2.5-3 MB per image)

Those are great! Thanks!

Anyone else have favorite screenshots? :)

Yeah, I'll be at GDC for the Expo and PAX East in the kickstarter booth. I imagine we'll be getting a proper booth for PAX Prime, so I have a busy travel year ahead of me.
