Oculus CEO Brendan Iribe says that the latest prototypes are 4K with less than 5ms latency.

The article didn't make it clear whether or not the first commercial version of the Rift would have these specs, but it sounds pretty awesome.

BTW, does anyone else want an omni-directional treadmill? I think it would really increase immersiveness for any game where you travel on foot. Of course, I'm the sort of person who already plays video games on a treadmill just because it's a good opportunity to exercise.

Alone is really taking advantage of that VR experience. That is very awesome, but there is something important missing from it. The player plays a game in a game. The point of the inner game is to fool the brain into substituting the main game with reality. It is a clever trick. BUT, the inner game is a lame running around for envelopes on the ground and the real game seems like it is missing confrontation. Critic aside, Alone is a giant leap in the right direction for the VR experience.

EDIT: Also the Rift has been known for motion sickness. That could be a problem.
I expect the game to come out after the Rift is released next year, and the game-within-the-game in the demo is just a placeholder, more of a proof of concept than anything. In the final game, it will be a more fleshed-out first person shooter.

I thought they were saying that the actual device would be 1080p. It sounds like the 4K is for version 2 or 3 or something.

The budget of Alone seems pretty small to create what they are looking to do. It's funny. A lot of people criticize projects because the budgets are too big. I usually look at it the other way. Will the money they get REALLY be able to execute on a game that lives up to my expectations?

I did get one person message me saying the budget for Neverending Nightmares was too small - to which I agreed, but I explained we already funded it part of the way based on contracting/consulting, and we would get the Free the Games Fund money to make it the rest of the way.

Well, it's a small game for which they already have a working prototype. The Kickstarter description says they expect to finish in three months. If they just need to pay personal expenses for a little while, maybe $25,000 is enough.

Hmm... That's true. $25k for 3 months isn't bad, but building a 3D horror FPS within a game seems pretty ambitious for that schedule. The team has a lot of experience, so maybe they can pull it off. I'm rooting for them!

There is a kickstarter for a documentary about horror games, and I'll be interviewed!

If you can't get enough of what I have to say (or Thomas Grip), check out the project. It should be interesting! :-D

Playing With Fear's pitch video was really well edited.

With all the recent talk about Panzer Dragoon on this forum, some of you may be interested in Dragons of Elanthia.

3D action adventure games aren't very common on Kickstarter. The Girl and the Robot has a Ghibli feel to it including the combat sound effects.

Two horror related projects have launched in time for Halloween.

The first is The 7th Guest 3 from Trilobyte. The first game was able to help pioneer the use of CD-ROM drives in PC gaming.

A smaller campaign is Terror Obscura that is for the second season of a horror film review webseries. There is a reward where backers can decide on a film to be reviewed for an episode.

The latest project I've backed is a sequel to Ghosts 'N Goblins--"Ghosts 'N Goblins - Demon World". The concept art looks cool, and it sounds like they've got some good developers lined up to work on it they can line up the funding. Like Neverending Nightmares, they're trying to get the Ouya matching funds.

I hope that they don't try to exactly duplicate the difficulty of the original. That would be a little excessive. :)

A big red flag in the risk and rewards section:
"Capcom only promised to review our submission, and nothing more. We have only discussed a possibility of a developer’s license if the game is up to their standards. We do not currently have one and may not get one."

That seems like a REALLY risky proposition especially because their budget is REALLY tiny for XBLA, PSN, Ouya, and WiiWare - especially because they have to pay to give out the console versions of the game (except Ouya)...
