Re: 63 - Fatal Frame
I think you are spot on in a lot of your comments about Outlast. Personally, I much prefer the supernatural, and was bummed they didn't do anything supernatural. I agree the stuff jammed in at the end doesn't count. I think perhaps feeling the developer's presence is a symptom of a greater problem ...

Re: 63 - Fatal Frame
I think that indescribable difference between Outlast's atmosphere and scarier games is that Outlast was too straightforward. I was originally thinking that it was because it was missing a supernatural element (that psychic nanomachine demonhost...thing...that they exposition dump on the player at t...

Re: 61 - Run Prototypes
Random idea. The first few times the player runs the character into an asthma attack, as part of the animation, the character pulls out an inhaler and takes a dose from it. After those first few times, the inhaler is empty and the character throws it away in frustration, and all times after that the...

Re: The active Kickstarter projects discussion thread.
The Rift is supposed to release next year. I am with you in that I want to wait for a release version. Both the Rift and Alone seem awesome though. Alone is really taking advantage of that VR experience. That is very awesome, but there is something important missing from it. The player plays a game...

Why has nobody brought up Alone yet?

It looks amazing, but it doesn't look like it's doing too good at the moment.

Re: 61 - Run Prototypes
In keeping with the diegetic interface this game has, what if, in addition to the breathing, the "light levels" reduced and the cross-hatchy darkness sort of crept inwards with your lowering stamina? On a somewhat related note (I was just curious and didn't think it warranted starting a ne...

Re: Research and Learn From Other Games
Of course, being the jerk that I am, I would use that opportunity to - after having used that safety blanket perfectly fine a few times - mess up that "safe zone" on one of their return trips and make it horrendous, too, to add a "progression" of horror to it (until they find th...

Re: 57 - Silent Hill 2
I believe Quake uses morph targets (individually positioning the vertices) and interpolating them at 10 FPS. We actually do something similar for the animation on Neverending Nightmares, so while it looks hand drawn, it can be smoothly interpolated. I do agree about using your imagination to fill i...

Re: What is your favorite horror game till the date.
Yes it was released on PC! I have it on Steam myself and a boxed copy. Great horror game, urge everyone to give it a shot as it's probably cheap as chips now :D It was a launch title for Xbox 360, to give you an idea of how old it is. I bought a used copy at Gamestop for next to nothing. And it eve...

Re: 59 - Enemy Encounter Update
I would love enemies to not just patrol but stop, feign interaction with the environment and so on, look at stuff... but especially mumble or similar things. The mumbling and groaning of nearby enemies was a very important aspect to the atmosphere of System Shock 2, especially when you could HEAR e...
