Re: They Breathe: a horror game about frogs. No, seriously.

Bah, I did an LP of it months ago! t3IgU2qstj4 It has very simplistic gameplay but it does a fine job of explaining the story through just that. Since it's kind of based on one "trick", it doesn't have much replay value, but it is very good and extremely atmospheric. :-) Plus, I got it at a $1 sale ...

Re: 140- Game length, value, and quality

Yeah. I mean, the game doesn't have to be hundreds of hours long, but there should be some value in it. It's not just that a lot of games are short these days, it's that a lot of them are full price, more than 60 dollars, especially AAA titles, featuring, what, a 4-6 hours singleplayer campaign? Tha...

Re: Developer Diaries suggestions

*snip* Oh. I haven't played Dark Souls 2 and I'm still very, very early in Dark Souls 1 because I don't really get around to playing it, but... Such things are generally called Mimics as they "mimic" a treasure chest. Those are actually pretty common in various, especially action-oriented RPGs. A l...

Re: Postmortem of Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs

I heard a lot of negative things about A:AMFP, but I haven't played it yet, so I'll avoid that article for now. That said: Even though I liked Dear Esther for what it was (a somewhat interactive narrative that you had to piece together), I was worried from the start when I heard about the Chinese Ro...

Re: Alpha 0.3 Discussion [SPOILERS]

Gagaplex, mega man boss rush perhaps? :) Hehe, sure, why not? I dunno exactly what type of climax they are going for yet, but if dream realities start breaking down, I could imagine them meshing and twisting (allowing for recycling of assets and monsters and thus saving time while still creating so...

Re: Is anyone getting "DreadOut"?

I haven't decided on how all the branches will work, but I like to think of them as choices. However, they will be choices where you won't potentially know you are being presented with one just because we don't have UI or HUD. I think the secret will be basically how to play the level differently t...

Re: Alpha 0.3 Discussion [SPOILERS]

Out of curiosity: Will there be levels with more than one monster-type? Like, a mash-up level, perhaps, so they all fit into their particular niche? Or even a mash-up of environments (with, say, the Baby in the asylum along with its typical, displaced closet or the Jacket with its broken glass mecha...

Re: 135 - Enemy Design

Babies are definitely used as monsters in a number of games (I can think of Doom 3 and Dead Space off the top of my head), but I can't remember ever seeing them used as brutes with the size and muscles and low, rumbling voices like in NN. So as far as I can tell, they are unique? :)

Re: Is anyone getting "DreadOut"?

Well, to be fair, you might need a walkthrough to figure out some of the branches, but that's okay with me. So, I'm curious: Way back you said you wanted to make the branching dependent on how many times players die in a given level. It now sounds like it'll be more about finding secrets or particu...
