I love Amnesia, thanks for the links, you've given me some more to soak up about that game. Also on GDC Vault, did you see the post-mortem from 2011 Evoking Emotions and Achieving Success by Breaking all the Rules? That was a fascinating watch.

It may be kind of trite, but you could have things like trying to open a door but the doorknob just falls off, or switching on a light but it either doesn't work or the bulb burns out right away. Nightmares I've had have often involved stumbling around in the dark trying to find a working light, but...

I definitely agree that running shouldn't be an always available toggle option, that will kill the pacing. Telltale's Walking Dead was mentioned in the video, and although that game takes control away from the player a lot, something it looks like you don't want to do at all with Neverending Nightma...

Amnesia: The Dark Descent easily makes the top of my horror games list. It's given me more genuine chills than any other game I've played. Giving you no weapons makes it a true survival horror, and it relies more on building and deepening an atmosphere of crushing dread than cheap jump scares. I lik...
